Vice President of Business Systems, 2007 - 2008

As Vice President for business systems I was responsible for leading and ensuring the efficient and effective operation of four of AHSIS’ departments. The Business Intelligence & Data Warehouse department developed and deployed a wide range of management reports for use throughout the enterprise. The Physician Systems department deployed and supported the NextGen physician practice management and EMR systems for employed physicians. The Financial & Administrative Systems department supported virtually all non-clinical information systems used throughout the enterprise as well as the organization’s home care information system. The Project Management Office planned and managed the deployment of new applications and significant application upgrades for the enterprise. I led these groups, was the company’s liaison to their system vendors, and was the company’s liaison to regional and hospital executives relative to the groups’ various initiatives.

I reported to the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of AHSIS.

I contributed to achieving enterprise goals, successful completion of designated information systems initiatives, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and community service.


Major Accomplishments:

Within Business Intelligence & Data Warehouse:

  • Developed and deployed an executive dashboard for use by hospital, regional and corporate executives that melded data from clinical and financial systems to present key hospital operating measures in an easy-to-understand fashion, yet provided sophisticated functionality allowing drill-down to data at the individual department, physician or patient level.
Within Physician Systems:
  • Virtually from scratch, I built a high performing team that implemented NextGen physician office practice management and EMR systems in dozens of practices serving hundreds of physicians in six states during an 18 month period.
Within Financial & Administrative Systems:
  • Accomplished major platform upgrades of McKesson Horizon Homecare and Series Patient Accounting systems. Implemented a number of new enterprise-wide financial and administrative systems including fixed assets, contract management and materials management enhancements.
Within Project Management:
  • Implemented Cerner clinical systems in four hospitals. Leveraged Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM) to improve and standardize project management processes. Improved project status reporting to corporate executives. Implemented project status reporting for regional and hospital executives that emphasized the value they received from AHSIS. Implemented numerous application systems across the AHS multi-state division enterprise including patient portal, accounts payable, and voice recognition for radiology dictation/transcription.
