Mount Carmel Health System, a member of Trinity Health, is a three hospital Catholic-sponsored community health system located in the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area.  In addition to extensive inpatient services, Mount Carmel offers outpatient care in surgery centers, imaging centers, women’s health centers, physicians' offices, community outreach sites and homes throughout central Ohio. Mount Carmel has over 1,100 staffed beds, more than 8,500 employees, 1,500 affiliated physicians and 1,300 volunteers. Mount Carmel Health System was an early adopter of Six Sigma practices in healthcare.

I was responsible for planning and directing activities of the information systems project management office for an enterprise consisting of three acute care hospitals and numerous other business entities with over 1,100 staffed beds, 8,500 employees, and 1,500 affiliated physicians. Among key accomplishments have been:
  • Working with senior executives to develop and implement information systems strategy
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA)
  • Development and implementation of a program to evaluate proposed information systems investments and to measure the actual benefit derived
  • Hiring, training and development of project management office personnel, improving operational performance of this enterprise asset and achieving the best Gallup Q12 employee engagement scores in the enterprise (99th percentile in the Gallup healthcare database)
  • Management of annual capital project budgets of $5M – $10M and operating budgets of approximately $1M
  • Directed the selection, acquisition and implementation of enterprise-wide information systems in support of key organizational goals such as improved patient safety and implementation of an electronic medical record. Notable system implementations include:
    • GE Medical Systems’ Centricity PACS
    • MedPlus’ ChartMaxx document imaging system in Patient Financial Services department, patient registration areas and Health Information Management
    • A4 Health Systems’ HealthMatics ED Emergency Department information system – including physician order entry
    • Bridge Medical’s MedPoint point of care bar-code enabled medication administration information system
    • eScription's EditScript computer-aided medical transcription system
    • Witt Biomedical’s CALYSTO Series IV cardiac catheterization laboratory information system
    • Medcon’s TCS cardiology image archive and non-invasive lab documentation systems
    • Agilent’s OB TraceVue perinatal monitoring and documentation system
    • api's Payrollmation and ActiveStaffer systems
    • CBORD’s Nutrition Services Suite dietary department information system
    • Wireless network infrastructure
    • Microsoft’s Windows XP Professional and Office XP Professional
